TCM’s client who is a worldwide business solutions, technology and outsourcing firm that provides consulting, systems integration and design, IT and business process outsourcing, applications software, web and application hosting to its clients needed to provide its customer due to a mandate from the Federal CIO that required government agencies to reduce the overall cost and real estate footprint of their data centers, as well as to adopt a “cloud first” approach when building out new IT applications and infrastructure.  To support FDCCI and other key clients, our integrator customer needed to deploy a team of Cloud and Virtualization Consultants to design, develop and implement its Cloud Computing platform and service offering. Our integrator customer’s HR organization began an aggressive hiring effort, but encountered significant challenges and delays in sourcing and recruiting these high-level experts due to their skill level and scarcity.

The Engagement

In February 2011, faced with mounting schedule deadlines and time-to-market pressure, our customer turned to TCM as its strategic delivery partner to build the core of its design, development and implementation project team.  Within weeks, TCM recruited and deployed the first members of a team of 12 Cloud and Virtualization Architects and Developers and Network Engineering resources including the following:

  • Cloud Architect
  • Storage Architect
  • VMware Architect
  • CCIE/CCVP Architect
  • Virtualization Architect
  • MS Exchange/Mail Architect
  • Citrix Engineer
  • IT Service Management Architect

Outcome/Results

The TCM team was responsible for defining the product roadmap for our integrator customer FDCCI/cloud public sector service offerings; developing the IT Service Management solution and FDCCI Cloud Information-as-a-Service transition, consolidation and optimization plan; designing and developing the core Cloud and Virtualization infrastructure as well as the VMware-certified and Desktop Virtualization service offering and ensuring service commercial readiness through in-depth QA testing.

The Integrator’s Cloud Computing service offering has been recognized by Gartner Group as a leader in its Magic Quadrant for Public Cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service analysis. Our customer was cited by Gartner as one of the few providers that have a standardized architecture across both public and private cloud offerings; for its high market share in the VMware-based public cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service segment and the strength of its product/service road map focused on bringing enterprise-class IT operations management tools, including automated managed services, to cloud Information-as-a-Service.
